Positive Climate

In the field of Information Technology, it can be difficult to keep abreast of all of the changes. It is imperative that we as instructors keep up on what is current with regard to technology. I feel it is also important that my faculty and I stay engaged with the curriculum and other opportunities.

For example, faculty members can be course developers or course mentors. They can study to be Cisco, EC-Council, Oracle, or VMware  certified instructors. We now have an annual statewide IT competition that needs faculty members to help create the challenges, be judges and mentors.

I strive to give my full-time faculty every opportunity to participate in anything they wish. I am constantly receiving solicitations for assistance.

One thing I try to do is get the faculty members engaged from day one. For example, I had one new faculty member start a couple of years ago in the fall semester. I got him engaged with Corporate College the following summer teaching Excel classes.  I had a faculty member who started in the spring of 2017 get involved right away with mentoring a class and then in the summer, becoming a Cisco certified Networking Fundamentals instructor.  More recently, she has just become a Cisco certified IT Essentials instructor. The other faculty member wrote the Database competition challenge in April, and he is currently writing three modules for the upcoming Software Development Technical certificate competency based education program. Attached is the welcome memo for the new IT Essentials certified instructor and an example of where I forwarded a participation opportunity to my faculty.
