Community Service

I have the opportunity to share my expertise in cybersecurity in many different ways. Because of my CISSP certification, I am a member of the professional organization called (ISC)2. They have a sub-organization called Safe and Secure Online of which I am also a member. The purpose of this organization is to get security professionals out into the community - particularly K-12 schools, and talk to kids about cybersecurity. I have done presentations for first graders, and seventh and eighth graders. It is a great program.

I mentioned the CyberPatriot competition in the previous criterion. Again, this is a great way for me to share my expertise and excitement about cybersecurity with kids.

On the governmental level, I served two terms on the Technology Advisory Council for the City of Columbus, and am now a member of the Public Awareness and Training work group of the Indiana Governor's Council on Cybersecurity.

I have given presentations on personal information security at TriWic (Tri-State Women in Computing Conference), and for an Administrative Assistant's meeting.

I have participated in several nation-wide initiatives with regard to cybersecurity. One project I was on was to help create security objectives that would be embedded into the new computer science curriculum that was supported by the Association for Computing Machinery Committee for Computing Education in Community Colleges (CCECC) Cybersecurity-infused Curricular Guidance for Associate-Degree Transfer Programs in Computer Science. You can see the full document a the link on the left and find my name on page 3.

Another project I worked on was the National CyberWatch Center Curriculum Standards Panel (NCCCSP) Core Curriculum Mapping project which completed at the beginning of 2017. You can see the draft document at the link on the left.

I had the opportunity to give a presentation on personal data security for the International Association of Administrative Professionals - Indiana division during their education conference in 2012.
